For Those Who Served

This coming weekend is Memorial day here. Arlington Cemetery is a quick metro trip from my house, and I love the peace and sadness of the gorgeous rolling landscapes and solemn white stones. Over this weekend, flags go up on every gravesite. It never fails to choke me up.

Miniature Forest

I suspect that stock photography sites might deem this as "uninteresting," but I like the color and the way it seems to go on forever.

Kismet?

I had a photo outing scheduled with a friend: a rare and exciting chance for the two of us to go hunting in the recesses of suburban ugliness and find something gorgeous.

And then the throwing up began. By my children, not me and my friend.

So the outing was canceled and I was limited to what I could find in my house and outside my front door. What I loved is that several hours after I took this, my friend sent a picture that she'd taken outside her front door. And it looked just like this.

So there is beauty. Even in the midst of stomach flus.

Ready and Waiting

I'd like to say we are ready and waiting for the pool to open up. Or to go to the beach. Either of which would be highly preferable to the real reason these towels are stacked on the floor in a patch of sunlight.

Our house has been hit with the stomach flu. Three kids, three bouts of sickness, six days of being homebound, one very tired mom.

When someone gets sick in our house, we coat the beds, the floor, the couch with old beach towels. It's a blanket of protection, so to speak. Or just a way of getting a little bit of color in an otherwise dreary day.

Preppy Pretty

This is my new favorite flower picture. I took it yesterday when I was stuck inside with sick kids. The geranium plant sits on my windowsill and was given to me by a friend during a very tough time, with a card that reminded me that tough times will pass.

The flowers aren't that pretty until you get close up. I didn't expect this to be a great picture when I took it, but I loved how the colors and the soft edges turned out. Gotta love a macro lens!
